St. Louis Public Library - The 1904 World's Fair
Celebrating the Louisiana Purchase | view site
The St Louis Public Libraray has a huge collection photographs, books and ephemera detailing the 1904 World's Fair.
They asked Hinshaw Design Group to design an online exhibit that would provide much greater public access to this treasure of artifacts. The Library wanted to avoid a traditional web site navigation in order to encourage visitors to take a leisurely ‘stroll’ through the exhibit. To this end, they developed a database of interrelated subject areas and images. We created an interface that allowed visitors to easily discover the depth of the treasures and their connections to one another.
We used typography and historical patterns to create a look of the period. The exhibit contains more than 1200 photographs, stereographs, postcards and lantern slides.
